Where to Propose in Northern Michigan
So, you want to propose to your boo? I’m literally doing a geeky, happy dance as you read this! Traverse City (and Northern Michigan) is a dream of a destination to pop the question. If you’re not familiar with the area, we’re surrounded by Lake Michigan, have sand dunes, an endless amount of trees, and some of the best beer and wine in the United States.
We can work together to find a location that is (or will be) significant to your relationship, and somewhere to can revisit on your anniversary year after year. So let’s get started!
Tips for Planning your Proposal:
Think about the time of year: While holiday winter proposals are pure magic, popping the question during the snowier months may limit you on some locations. I’m always down for a winter hike, but if that's not your vibe, switching to warmer month or somewhere close to downtown may be best! Northern Michigan is super busy during the summer months, I can recommend more secluded locations, but hikers or tourists may still be present. And if your dream proposal is in a cherry blossom orchard or vineyard with ripe grapes, keep in mind that those things have a very short window.
Make it a day: We can work together to find the perfect location for photos, but plan on making the whole day a celebration! You propose, I’ll capture the moment, then visit some wineries, or go to a nice dinner. If you need recommendations, I’m happy to help with that too.
My Favorite Proposal Spots in Traverse City (and beyond):
Empire Bluff Trail: Part of Sleeping Bear National Park, this trail has stunning views for your proposal!
Pyramid Point Trail: Another trail, but with more sand and Lake Michigan views for days.
Wineries and Breweries: Going on a wine or beer tour throughout Northern Michigan is a good way to make an all day event out of your proposal! There are so many amazing spots throughout the region, but these are a handful of my favs for proposals: Sutton’s Bay Ciders, Farm Club, Earthen Ales, Bonobo Winery.
Old Mission Lighthouse: Propose on the beach or in front of the lighthouse after a romantic drive up Old Mission Peninsula!
On the beach: Not a specific location, but seriously, you can never go wrong with a walk on the beach. If your plan includes dinner, or an activity, I’m happy to suggest some spots on the water that are close by.
